Who are we?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Toastmaster Fonske Leuven was started as a club of Toastmaster International in 2010.
The mission of the club is to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. The envisioned future is to be the first-choice provider of dynamic, high-value, experiential communication and leadership skills development.
The club is open to all and currently has more than 30 members with diverse nationalities and varied professional backgrounds. The club is bi-lingual and allows members to give speeches both in English and Dutch..
What do we do?
The Club gathers twice every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at 19:30 hrs, normally at Café Tempo. (. Sometimes we have another location, so always check our agenda and send an email so we can provide you with the correct information).
4-5 members, also called Toastmasters, give prepared speeches moderated by the Toastmaster-of-the-Evening. Every speech is a progression in series of projects chosen from one of the Education manuals. These speeches last 7-10 minutes. After the prepared speeches, we have a break and a drink. We start the beginning of the second half with the evaluations of the speeches, given by other members of the club. The speakers get feedback about their speech in a constructive manner, helping them improve as they progress.
The Toastmaster Education program comprises two tracks: Communication and Leadership. The two tracks are not mutually exclusive; members could participate in both at the same time and progress through each track by completing a series of manuals that contain projects and evaluation guides. There are many opportunities for awards and recognition along the way. At the end of evening, there are Table-topics sessions, where a Table-topics master invites select members- including guests to give an impromptu speech about a theme.
Do we give public speaking workshops?
If your organisation wants our members to give a workshop about public speaking, you can always email us. We will ask our members if they are willing to do this and put you in contact with them.
